Heyoo! Wow. I literally cannot believe we are in the middle of September. This means two things. 1. It’s fall (well almost) and 2. The madness begins.
Nick and I have three weddings before ours. Two are on the east coast and one is my brother’s. It’s gooo time baby! We’ve been talking about this for so long and now it’s finally here.
We are in the final stages of planning. Well, really we are done planning. Now it’s just paying vendors, dotting our i’s and crossing our t’s. Oh and finishing plan our honeymoon. Maui here we come! 🌴
It’s also hard to believe we are getting into fall recipes. I just planned out the rest of the year and I can’t wait!! Lots of pumpkin coming your way 😘
But, before we dive into all that goodness, let’s talk about these Sloppy Joes!
First off, mum’s the word because this is my dad’s famous (secret) recipe. I totally stole it from him (and made some healthier adjustments, of course).
Growing up we would have sloppy joes or what we called them “Dad’s Famous Maid-Rites” once a week. I’m still not sure the difference between the two?
He wouldn’t share this recipe with anyone. And here I am today, sharing it with the world 😏. He will never know. muahahaha!
What You’ll Need
- Ground Turkey
- Brown Sugar
- Ketchup
- Mustard
- Chopped dried onion
5 simple ingredients, all of which you likely have in your pantry.
How to Make Healthier Sloppy Joes
Grab a skillet and brown the ground turkey. Then add the rest of the ingredients and stir until it’s completely combined. Yes, it’s that easy.
Add it onto a gluten free bun, whole wheat bun if you’re not GF, or you can even eat it plain! That’s my favorite way.
If you want to dress it up, feel free to top it with some pickles, a little slice of cheese, or more ketchup. Either way it’s going to tasty 😋
We serve it with sweet potato fries (homemade or store bought), a spinach salad (to get the greens in) and cottage cheese (for a protein boost!)
We’re talking dinner in 15 minutes. It doesn’t get better than that!
- • 1 lb. ground turkey
- • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- • ½ cup ketchup
- • ¼ cup mustard
- • ¼ cup chopped dry onions
- Grab a skillet and brown ground turkey on medium to high heat for 5 - 7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Once turkey is cooked, turn heat to low and add the rest of the ingredients. Stir until completely combined.
- Add sloppy joe mixture to gluten free bun, whole wheat bun or eat plain.
- Enjoy!
